Mario & Luigi Pizza Crawl

The November Project once hosted a run in Flatiron and urged us to use Strava to map our course. We ended our run at a pizza shop where it was revealed that we ran 3 miles in the shape of a pizza slice.

A couple of years later, inspired by my pizza run, I planned a pizza crawl in the shape of a pizza slice, with the tip in Fidi and the crust in the Garment District. I mapped our 10 slice pizza crawl, ensuring our path was on a diagonal to make that perfect triangle shape.

I believe creative exercise is crucial so planning elaborate and complex outings is when my creative brain does its strength training. Letting my mind concept, dream, and plan excites me. Although I try to channel my creative energy into writing books and dreaming up new business ideas, I allow my creative side to manifest itself at any time.

After food crawling in the shape of pizzas, I needed a new angle for a clever pizza crawl. I was thinking about how so many pizza places are called Vinny’s, NY Pizza or Mario’s. Maybe I could find pizza places called Mario’s. Or better yet, why not Mario’s Pizzas AND Luigi’s Pizzas?! Surely, there must be enough to choose from. Plus, we could get costumes!

A google map search of most boroughs (sorry Staten Island), helped me find 4 Mario pizzerias and 4 Luigi pizzerias. Perfect! Not wanting to spend too much money on costumes, I opted for M&L hats and a costume for Uni, who we were babysitting. I surprised Sung that morning, tossing him a new green shirt and a Luigi hat before jumping in our car to hit up 8 pizza places.

We could have gone to any 8 pizza places but the theme makes it more fun and ultimately more memorable. Too often, we rely on our extravagant experiences to be the ones that we will remember. Instead, turn something ordinary into extraordinary!
