My Night at The Plaza
When Sung and I were looking to get away in the early days of the pandemic, our options were limited seeing as transportation felt risky. One night at The Mark hotel, shut in watching movies and ordering room service twice (because we didn’t want the ice cream to melt) proved to be a luxurious staycation and a great use of credit card points. So come 2022, we opted for another Manhattan getaway, this time to a place I’ve dreamed of staying at ever since the release of Home Alone 2 - The Plaza Hotel!
The day started at Yakitori Totto in midtown, an outstanding Japanese restaurant that I can’t recommend enough. We waltzed over to The Plaza and checked into our room, as ornate as I thought it would be, with an old world opulent charm that matched the Talkboy I bought off ebay to recreate Home Alone 2 as best as I could. We spent the afternoon at a museum, popping into coffee shops for relief from the 20 degree weather. We gussied up for a night on the town, starting with drinks at King Cole Bar, moving to apps at Empellon, more drinks at Nobu 57, and ending with room service ice cream at the Plaza.
I woke up early to join the Upper East Siders for the early morning barre class at Exhale and returned back to the hotel to use up our $100 room service breakfast credit. Next up with our AMEX spa credit, granting me one massage and a visit to the sauna. We took advantage of our late check-out and relaxed in robes until 2PM.
To say we had a luxurious weekend is an understatement. Blowing a bunch of AMEX points to fulfill a lifelong fantasy of being Kevin McCallister was well worth it, a hard check on a bucket list item!
