2022 Goal Setting: Prioritizing Programs
I hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about my goal setting process! There’s no one way to do it and there is no wrong way to do it. The hardest part is centering yourself around your own hopes and dreams.
Here are some benefits to creating projects and programs:
By carving out distinct projects, you can set timelines for completion. You can choose distinct start dates and end dates for what you want to achieve
You'll get the satisfaction of completing a project that is part of a perpetual program. You may do home renovation projects non-stop, so you'll never finish "home renovation" as a project. But if home renovation is your program and you create projects for finishing the basement and painting your daughter's room, you'll be able to complete projects on your never-ending renovation journey
Projects provide you with those bold headers on your to-do list. By grouping your tasks underneath these bold headers, you can add focus to tackling your to-do list
It is much easier to prioritize a few projects over a million little tasks. When you feel overwhelmed, worry less about which items you can erase from the to-do list and focus on which projects you can de-prioritize
Projects provide you with more structure for securing resources. If you need help or you need to delegate some big life to-dos, you may be able to take an entire project an outsource it, or ask your partner to take on one of your projects
By taking your various projects and grouping them together, you’ll have a better view into what you are working on. As you group together your projects, you may determine that Home Renovation, Wellness, and Finance are your key areas of focus and are therefore your key programs for the year. Once you know your key areas of focus, you are better equipped to prioritize or reject incoming projects. When your partner suggests organizing all of your photos from the last 10 years, you can tell your partner that it doesn’t fall under one of your key programs for the year. But if a friend suggests making a routine out of Sunday yoga and coffee, you may decide that this fits in well with your commitment to wellness, so you say heck yes!
